Welcome Note
The International Ecotourism Society (TIES) invites you to join us in Madison, Wisconsin on September 26 – 28, 2007, for our second conference focused on ecotourism in North America. The three-day conference will bring together hundreds of ecotourism experts, government officials, and travel/hospitality industry practitioners involved in or working towards responsible tourism. Don’t miss it!
The upcoming conference in Madison will build from the discussions of the 2005 Ecotourism in the US Conference (Bar Harbor-ME), tie in examples and lessons from the Canadian ecotourism movement, and provide the opportunity for collaboration among tourism professionals. Conference attendees will gain advanced knowledge, as well as practical tools, resources, and contacts, that they can use to lead their respective businesses and organizations.
Ecotourism is a powerful way to preserve and safeguard our national resources and cultural heritage upon which the future of tourism in the North American region depends. Join TIES in Madison to help advance this vital movement.

Mayor’s Letter
“As Mayor of the City of Madison, I take great pleasure in welcoming The International Ecotourism Society to our city. We are honored to have the opportunity to host the Second Biennial North American Ecotourism Society. With an ecologically-focused legacy tracing back former residents Aldo Leopold and John Muir, and natural assets including more than 120 miles of bike paths, 260 City parks and five are lakes, it is easy to see why Madison has long been recognized as one of the nation’s forerunners of environmentalism.”
Successful GEC07

On behalf of the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) and our partners, I am proud to report to you that the Global Ecotourism Conference 2007 (GEC07), held in Oslo, Norway, May 14-16, was a great success, attended by over 460 participants representing around 70 countries, and produced many positive outcomes.
You will find the draft Oslo Statement on Ecotourism, one of the key documents to be produced as a result of GEC07, on our conference website. Based on the results of the conference workshops and your feedback, the Statement will be revised, and the final Statement will be officially announced in late June.
