Poster Presentation Information

The poster session at the ESTC 2008 provides an exciting opportunity for conference delegates to present their research in an alternative format, covering diverse topics and viewpoints.

The poster session takes the form of an exhibit with information displayed primarily through visual medium (photos, illustrations, graphs, table, etc). The poster presenters are requested to prepare well-organized posters that demonstrate particular projects and include some conclusive results (although preliminary results, in the case of on-going research, will be accepted).

Conference participants are encouraged to review poster presentations during the networking times between workshops. We ask that the presenters stay at their posters during the breaks as much as possible so that other delegates will be able to ask questions and make comments.

Presenters are to register at the hotel and set up their posters on the morning of Monday, October 27th.

Poster Requirements

Presenters must provide their own display materials and are encouraged to provide handouts (to be placed along with the poster) for participants if appropriate. A poster board surface or easle will be provided by the conference organizer, as well as appropriate supplies to attach the poster materials onto the board.

On the board, the presenter will attach the following pieces of information:

(1) Presentation title

(2) Presenters’ name, title, affiliation(s)

(3) Description of the project/research work

(4) Photos, tables, illustrations, etc. that communicate the results of the project/research

All the text on the posters should be readable from a reasonable distance (1-1.5m) and the font sizes must be larger than 48 pt. Presenters are encouraged to make their posters visually appealing by using color printing and lamination where possible, but the posters should be simple enough so that the content of the presentation, and not the design and colors, will be given appropriate focus. Where possible, data should be presented through visual representations (i.e. figures, graphs, photos, and illustrations).

Please review the following recommendations when preparing your poster:

  • Minimize long text passages and excessive explanations
  • Use simple, jargon-free statements
  • Use relevant pictures, tables, graphs and figures that illustrate your points
  • Use colors effectively as an organizing tool or to highlight specific parts
  • Do not overflow your poster with colors
  • Make sure to use the font type(s) and size(s) that are easy to read
  • Do not overwhelm the viewer with excessive amounts of information; rather, construct a poster display that enhances conversation
  • If additional information (references, websites, background information, etc.) is available, make a handout
  • Posters should look as professional as your professional research

Deadlines

Applications for poster presenters are no longer being accepted.

Poster presenters are asked to register for the conference upon receiving approval of your application. Unless agreed on otherwise, poster presenters are responsible for their own registration, travel and accommodation costs.

The first draft of the poster presentations (including the title, draft text for project descriptions and conclusions, and some photos and other materials) is due September 30th 2008. The draft is to be submitted electronically to: conference@ecotourism.org (Subject: “ESTC Poster – Your name”). Failure to submit the first draft by the above deadline is grounds for replacement.
