BC Sustainable Tourism Collective

The British Columbia Sustainable Tourism Collective

Synopsis

The BC Sustainable Tourism Collective was founded on the vision that travel within B.C. can foster appreciation and stewardship for the natural environment, regions and communities. For this purpose, sustainable tourism is defined as travel that ensures destinations remain unspoiled for future generations through commitment to environmental, social and economic responsibility as it relates to a company, its people, guests, local communities and the environment.

Core Value of the BCSTC:

Focus on sustainability through environmental, social and fiscal leadership and action, with a constant view to guest satisfaction.

The BCSTC believes that, by supporting each other in a collective goal to become leaders in sustainable tourism, it can build value for its member companies and their guests and it can influence the tourism sector, governments and local communities to identify and implement sustainable best practices.

Tourism that is developed in a sustainable way is a powerful tool for increasing public education and awareness for the conservation of the natural environment, and for supporting the economic stability and diversity of communities.

The mandate of the BC Sustainable Tourism Collective ( BCSTC) is to:

  • Create a model of sustainable tourism that translates into a competitive advantage for member companies by working collaboratively to showcase innovation, best practices and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Position the BCSTC as a model of industry best practice, advocating for industry wide initiatives and positioning B.C. as a sustainable tourism destination.
